Villa Oleandra

The "perfect man", the most beautiful, not only in women’s opinion, but also according to the science that analyzed his features, and one of the most influential Arab woman in the world, fell in love one summer night of 2013. A night spent talking and admiring the romantic landscape from the American actor’s buen retiro in Laglio. Since Clooney bought Villa Oleandra from the Heinz family (the “ketchup” family) in 2002, the 900 inhabitants of the small community of Laglio have been in such hustle and bustle that the municipal administration has adopted ad hoc regulations to protect the privacy of beautiful George and his guests.

And the prohibition to stop off for non-residents near Villa Oleandra and Villa Margherita, the Art Nuveau building that Clooney bought later, it is not only for the streets of Laglio. Last year it was also extended to the waters of the lake, within a range of 100 meters away from the two villas. But these limits will not prevent curious and tourists from peek into the windows of Clooney's house coming from the lake. There are ad hoc tours which fuel the hope of seeing the American star, although from afar: the "Fast and fashion boat tour", which on board a Venetian taxi will stop at Villa Oleandra, and the George's Lake Como Tour, which, with that name, says a lot about how much Clooney's presence in Lake Como has a considerable impact on local tourism, and not only. When rumors about the sale of Villa Oleandra spread every year, everyone hopes that this is fake news. The departure of the Hollywood star would in fact have a considerable economic impact on the territory: in 2015 the Market Research Office of the Chamber of Commerce of Monza and Brianza estimated a loss of 130 million euros in case the American director moves from Lake Como, a loss that would have an effect not only in the image and brand of the territory, but also in real estate values. Lake Como has always attracted many tourists, especially foreigners. George Clooney's presence has made this lake more glamorous.
